Geothermal Drilling & Yard Restoration
The restoration responsibility should be written into the geothermal proposal. A buried loop may leave little visible equipment after completion, but the installation still needs a work area, access route and agreed finish condition.
Geothermal Drilling & Trenching Access
Start with how equipment and materials reach the work area. Note gates, fences, driveways, overhead obstructions and places that must stay accessible. Include landscape features you want protected and future building or patio plans.
Ask the drilling or excavation team which access assumptions its price uses. A route that appears open on a photograph may need assessment on site. Do not use a website diagram as clearance approval for equipment.
Ground-Loop Installation & Lawn Restoration

These items are proposal prompts, not a universal contractor warranty. “Restore lawn” is less useful than a description of the surfaces, finish and follow-up actually included.
Geothermal Excavation & Underground Utility Lines
UDig NY’s service notifies utility owners of locate requests. Privately owned buried pipes or cables may require separate attention. Share known private-line information with the project team, and establish who arranges any additional locating.
Also identify known well, septic and drainage features in the site discussion. Their presence calls for project-specific coordination; it does not provide a universal setback or loop-location rule.
Vertical Drilling vs. Horizontal Loop Trenching
Horizontal and vertical closed-loop approaches can create different work footprints. Compare their actual proposed access, connection routes and restoration boundaries, rather than assuming one leaves the entire yard untouched.

Geothermal Ground-Loop Installation Records
Request completion information showing the installed ground-side layout and relevant records supplied by the contractor. Keep it available for future property work and system service. A restored lawn can hide infrastructure that future contractors still need to know about.
Include restoration as its own line in the installed-quote breakdown. Where another landscaping contractor will finish the site, mark the boundary between contracts before comparing totals.
